    Through the integration of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA), we can analyse designs before manufacture to ensure everything we make is appropriately designed for the task at hand.

    Example – a steel reinforcement plate for the pressure testing of a pipeline.

    This plate was designed to seal the open end of a pipeline by means of bolting the plate to the open end of a concrete pit.

    Research and Development

    The development of a transportable and modular lift pump unit capable of transferring up to 40 Mega Litres of water per day at a Total Dynamic Head of 9m.

    Development Brief:

    • Self-priming pumps/systems
    • 9m suction head, 3m delivery head
    • Diesel motor driven units
    • Remote monitoring and control capability
    • Sound attenuation, these units could be used near residential housing where 24hr noise would be a problem.
    • Skid mounted but need to consider trailer mounted as well.
    • Variable pumping capacity, range dependent upon driver RPM.
    • Upstream level sensor – engine cut off safety switch.
    • Mobility – easy to shut down (decommission), relocate and set up (commission) in a reasonably short timeframe
    • Security covers for pump, diesel tank and antitheft trailer locks.

    Build Specification

    To meet the development brief RWE opted for a John Deere 6068T1 Diesel engine coupled to a custom made 16”KY pump with a 20”suction neck via an SEW Gearbox. The engine, gearbox and Diesel Dog engine controller where housed inside a CJ Perry sound attenuation canopy to keep noise levels to a minimum. Underneath the canopy, a 550 litre bunded fuel tank was used to keep the pump running for a minimum of 24 hours.

    To allow the pump-set to be used in many configurations, 630mm PN6.3 pipe spools where fabricated in 3 and 6 metre lengths. Each of these lengths have stub flanges and backing rings at both ends to create truly modular delivery options.

    600mm Krohne 0 upstream/0 downstream water meters where mounted on skids with short pipe spools at each end to allow the meters to be placed anywhere in the system. This allows accurate flow measurement to be obtained.
